Lately, during our Bible time for school, the kids and I have been reading through Exodus. A few weeks ago we read through the chapters where God gave Moses specific instructions on how to build the tabernacle. My kids mentioned how detailed God was about everything that went into building where HE would dwell. And it got me thinking about how God must care so much about what goes in and out of us. If HE was so specific on type, size, number, what it looked like etc. for the Tabernacle, how much more does HE care about my body. I then thought of 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.

I don’t believe this is referring to just appearance or what you do with your physical body. But I think it encompasses everything, from what we consume physically (food/drink), to what we watch and listen to, to what comes out in our speech and actions.

What are you consuming, knowingly or unknowingly?
Where do you have your focus?
What are you allowing to influence you or to infiltrate you?
What toxins do you need to clean out of either your home or body physically or spiritually

As we go into spring, I want to challenge you to think about how you can clean out some toxicity not just from your body or home but also from your actions/intentions. Let’s all strive this year to be a little more holy and a little less toxic. ðŸ’ªðŸ™Œ

First let’s talk about cleaning out our external environment; our home. This should be a safe haven as part of what makes the foundation of our health, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. When homes are filled with hidden, harmful toxins it negates any "healthy" actions we take. Toxins act as the ultimate saboteurs of our health.

Did you know? According to an Environmental Working Group (EWG) report, on average teenage girls use 17 personal care products/day, five more than the average adult woman. The study found 16 chemicals with potentially harmful effects in blood and urine sample of girls, ages 14 - 19.

Steps to Spring Cleaning your HOME, and turning it into a safe haven:
  1. BECOME AWARE of how toxins affect our vitality and health
  2. ELIMINATE risks with product replacement.
  3. CHOOSE products with additional HEALTH SUPPORTIVE BENEFITS, going beyond just buying green but instead incorporating the tools God gave us
  4. CLEANSE accumulated toxic residues from the body
Awareness is only the first step. We have to take action by changing our buying habits. In other words, we have to start purchasing healthier alternatives.

But even that can be challenging because one of the more popular “green” companies presently markets an all-purpose cleaner labeled as non-toxic and biodegradable. Yet this cleaner contains 2-butoxyethanol, a solvent absorbable through the skin that damages red blood cells and also acts as an eye irritant. It's this kind of "greenwashing," that forces consumers to be informed about toxic ingredients. This is why we have to investigate companies and choose those companies that operate on a full disclosure basis. This is also why having a community to lean on is important, because no one has the time to do it all on their own. And why I love Young Living because they reveal what is in every product they produce.

Young Living’s Thieves Household cleaner is my favorite cleaner that’s not only natural and nontoxic but it is also effective! Grab just Thieves here or Make a Shift in your home

The last step is spring cleaning our internal environment. This is where we strive past just “going green” in the home and address the bioaccumulation of toxins in our bodies.

Steps to Spring Cleaning your BODY:
  1. MINIMIZE exposures. It is impossible to eliminate all exposures. But the goal should be to reduce exposures where you can control it.
  2. FLOOD the body with nourishing, restorative nutrients. The body requires fortification for normal maintenance and better sustainability.
  3. CLEANSE the body or SUPPORT the body's natural cleansing mechanisms.
  4. REJUVENATE by maintaining a nourishing lifestyle.
How do we address toxins residing in our fatty tissues? We cannot be at our best, physically, mentally, emotionally, or psychologically, with the presence of a toxic load in our body. It's similar to a dirty engine "gunked "with dirty motor oil, needing an oil change. So grab a friend and look at ways to support the natural cleansing functions of our bodies and/or jump into the 14 Day Reset (Learn more about that here).

Did you know? The liver processes all; therefore, it is a "must have/go-to" organ. But a lot of times the liver gets “clogged up” processing all the toxins we are exposed to. For example, we have so much exposure to the endocrine disruptor, Diethyl phthalate (DEP), and other phthalates via personal care products, our liver is overwhelmed. Consequently, DEP is implicated in liver abnormalities and elevated cholesterol levels.

To recap, your overall health is determined by your level of toxicity. Toxicity comes in through our external environment, food, drink, cleaning products, personal care products etc, and even what we consume with our eyes and ears. Therefore it is important to clean out the toxins in our external environment (our home) so we can clean out the toxins in our internal environment (our body).  But the hard part is sticking to it. Changing habits whether it’s buying habits or lifestyle habits is challenging. And that’s why community is so important! Community helps encourage. Community helps educate. Community helps empower.
